Green CO2 Systems

Nitrogen blending systems and on-site generation

A nitrogen blending system does two things worth having. It makes nitrogen on site from air you already compress, and it mixes that nitrogen with CO2 to whatever ratio your draft system actually needs.

Generation and blending are separate decisions

You can blend using delivered nitrogen cylinders and never generate anything. You can also generate nitrogen for an application that needs no blending at all.

Most draft-heavy sites end up doing both, because once you are running a generator the marginal cost of the nitrogen in your blend drops close to nothing.

  • TruFusion Blender, pre-set CO2 and N2 blends to plus or minus 2 percent
  • Both work together, or either works alone

What blending fixes

On a long draw line, the pressure required to move beer to the tap is higher than the pressure the beer should be carbonated at. Straight CO2 at that pressure over-carbonates the beer in transit and it foams at the faucet.

Blending nitrogen in provides push without dissolving into the beer, so line pressure and carbonation stop fighting each other.

What generation fixes

A recurring delivery dependency and a recurring cost. Once a generator is in, nitrogen is effectively free at the point of use and one more thing can no longer fail to arrive.

Generation and blending as one system

Gas blending equipment and a nitrogen generation system are frequently bought years apart, which leaves the blend set up around whatever nitrogen supply happened to exist at the time. A CO2 nitrogen blender specified after the fact is always compromised.

Specified together, the generator sizes to the blend your lines actually need, and the blend stops being constrained by cylinder delivery frequency.

Common questions

The generator runs from a clean compressed air supply. Many sites already have one; where they do not, that forms part of the specification.

Yes, and many sites do. The blender works with both, so the dispensing side does not change when you switch.
