A pool CO2 system for pH control

A pool CO2 system controls pH by dissolving carbon dioxide into the water to form carbonic acid. It does the same job as muriatic acid without anyone on your team storing, carrying or dosing a corrosive liquid.

Swimmer comfort and safety, without the muriatic acid

As a swimming pool owner, we know how important it is for you to ensure your swimmers' comfort and safety.

Our system allows you to part ways with Muriatic Acid, replacing it with CO2 which enables you to improve overall water clarity and alkalinity, creating optimal PH levels. With our 24/7 external fill capability, we are able to keep your gas cylinders filled without interrupting standard daily use.

Why pools switch from acid to CO2

Muriatic acid works, but it is aggressive to handle, aggressive to store, and unforgiving if it is overdosed. A slug of acid can drop pH further and faster than intended, and correcting an overshoot costs chemicals and pool time.

CO2 is self-limiting by comparison. Carbonic acid is weak, so the pH curve is gentler and an overdose is far less dramatic. For a facility with staff who are not full-time pool chemists, that difference matters.

  • No corrosive liquid stored or carried on site
  • Gentler pH curve, less overshoot risk
  • Steadier chemistry between checks
  • Less aggressive on pool surfaces and fittings than repeated acid dosing
  • Simpler for general facilities staff to run safely

Steadier chemistry means better everything else

pH sitting where it should be is not just a compliance number. Chlorine efficacy depends on it, and a pool drifting high on pH needs more chlorine to achieve the same sanitation.

Holding pH steady with CO2 injection therefore tends to reduce chlorine consumption and produce more consistent water quality between tests, which is what your bathers and your inspector both actually notice.

What we install

Micro Bulk CO2 storage sized to your pool volume and bather load, feeding an injection point on your circulation system. Filled through an outside fill box, so a delivery never involves anyone entering the plant room or the pool hall.

Where the storage sits in an enclosed plant room, we install life-safety monitoring, because a plant room is a low enclosed space and CO2 collects there.

Who this suits

Municipal pools, recreation centers, hotel and resort pools, schools and aquatic centers. Anywhere with enough water volume that acid handling is a recurring operational task rather than an occasional one.

How CO2 in swimming pools actually controls pH

CO2 injection systems for pools dissolve carbon dioxide into the circulation loop, where it forms carbonic acid and brings pH down. Because carbonic acid is weak, pool pH CO2 dosing moves the curve gently instead of dropping it in a slug the way an acid feed can.

That is the practical case for CO2 pool chemistry over muriatic acid. Commercial CO2 pools hold a steadier pH between tests, which means chlorine works at the efficacy it is supposed to and your operator spends less time correcting an overshoot.

  • Pool pH CO2 dosing with a gentler curve than acid
  • No corrosive liquid stored or carried on site

What drives your pool CO2 consumption

Two pools of identical volume can differ substantially in gas use, which is why sizing is measured rather than calculated from surface area alone.

Source water alkalinity

High-alkalinity fill water resists pH change and demands more CO2 to hold the same setpoint. This is the single biggest variable between sites.

Bather load

Bathers raise pH. A busy municipal pool consumes considerably more than a quiet hotel pool of the same volume.

Turnover rate

Faster circulation means the injection point sees the whole body of water more often, which changes dosing behavior.

Indoor or outdoor

Outdoor pools lose CO2 to atmosphere and are affected by rainfall diluting alkalinity.

Common questions

For routine pH control on most commercial pools, yes. Your pool operator should confirm against your specific chemistry and bather load.

The gas dissolves into the circulation system rather than entering the hall. The area to watch is the plant room where the storage sits, and that is where we install monitoring.

It scales with water volume, bather load and your source water alkalinity. The assessment measures rather than estimates.
